Studio News: Senator Dato' Ahmad Ibrahim Shares His Journey of Leadership, Service and Vision for Sarawak at GoTalk Studios

GoTalk Studios recently had the honour of welcoming YB Senator Dato' Ahmad bin Ibrahim to the studio for an insightful and inspiring conversation on leadership, public service, and his lifelong commitment to Sarawak.

A respected banker, community leader, sports administrator, and politician, Senator Dato' Ahmad's story is one of dedication, perseverance, and service to the people.

A Son of Sarawak with a Multicultural Heritage

Born on 14 August 1969 in Kanowit, Sarawak, Senator Dato' Ahmad comes from a multicultural family of Melanau, Malay, and Iban heritage. Fluent in multiple languages including Bahasa Melayu, English, Melanau, and Iban, he embodies the multicultural identity that makes Sarawak unique.

During the interview, he reflected on his upbringing, education, and how his diverse background shaped his views on unity, inclusivity, and leadership.

From International Education to Banking Excellence

Senator Dato' Ahmad shared his educational journey, which took him from Sarawak to Canada before pursuing his degree in International Business and Finance at the University of San Francisco in the United States.

He also spoke about his distinguished career in the banking industry, beginning as a Management Trainee with Bank Utama (M) Berhad before rising through the ranks to become Senior Vice President and Head of Retail Banking Division.

Following the merger of Bank Utama with RHB Banking Group, he served as Executive Vice President and Regional Head for East Malaysia and Brunei, overseeing strategic planning and banking operations before retiring from the industry in 2008.

His journey serves as an inspiration to young Sarawakians, demonstrating how dedication and hard work can open doors to leadership opportunities both nationally and internationally.

Serving the Community Beyond Politics

Beyond his corporate achievements, Senator Dato' Ahmad has spent decades serving the community through various organisations and public appointments.

He previously served as the Deputy Chairman of the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP), where he championed initiatives related to public health, sustainable development, community programmes, and municipal services.

He has also played an active role in youth development through SABERKAS and has contributed significantly to sports development in Sarawak, currently serving as President of the Sarawak Motorsports Association.

His Political Journey

A member of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) since 1996, Senator Dato' Ahmad shared his experiences in politics and the lessons he has learned over the years.

In May 2022, he was elected by the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly to represent Sarawak as a Member of Parliament in the Dewan Negara (Senate), further expanding his role in serving the people and advocating for the interests of Sarawak at the national level.

Throughout the interview, he emphasized the importance of leadership, integrity, and remaining connected to the rakyat.
